My inlaws are crazy with Italy. They spend 3-4 months there during spring and summer tasting the local cuisine, enjoying the laid back lifestyle, traveling to charismatic little villages along the coastline, visiting old basilicas and just hopping from one ruin to another. When they are back home, I would be saddled of tales on every picture they took.

I need a little help here. I have no idea what the first one is and am theorizing the second one is a picture of cheese?

DP - I hope to be able to meet your inlaws on one of their future trips and show them a couple of my favorite places

ED - the first one is a heaping plate of seafood peaella. The second one is indeed cheese. On the left is Parmegiano Reggiana and on the right is the Asiago. The wine is a Pinot Bianco which is the perfect compliment to both.

Isn't Paella Spanish?

E - It is indeed, but certain Italian ristorantes specialize in it as well.

Now if I could only get some Cajun food here...

I thought that first dish looked familiar.

Italian Supli di risso (sp?) is my favorite. I guess you could call it rice croquettes no? Pass on a recipe of how to make this if you have one.

Sorry but I can't resist. Who cut the cheese?

I'll bet you that the paella tasted ten times better than it looked in your picture and it looked pretty darn good.

gosh, i haven't had paella in a super long time .. i think the last time was on a vacation to barcelona. but, i made a mistake due to time constraint: i walked into a 'paella hut' (it's not really called that, but the decor, menu layout, etc reminded me of the pizza-chain 'pizza hut'). i ordered the special #4 (i remember that number only because i was on the trip during april, re: my birthday) and had a few forkful before deciding i didn't want to get an upset stomach before boarding my flight.

so, i've yet to delight on 'proper' paella.

GIA - The wife has a good recipe for spaghetti & seafood, I'll send it when she gets back

MEL - I don't do desserts. But they are fantastic.

SCHA - The left coast of Italy is a gastronomical paradise. I looooove pesto. And don't get me started on the wines...

NAM - You poor guy, we could have warned you not to visit a place like that! Next time, splurge and get the real thing, it's worth it.
